Jost Nickel in da house!
This is a short report of Jost Nickel's Drum Workshop in Tehran - November 2015
The first time I met Jost Nickel it was at the Musik Messe in Frankfurt-April 2015, and seven month later he was in Teheran to do a Drum Workshop for the Iranian Drummer community. Since his book about drum Grooves called "Groove Book”, he is one of the most wanted and most talk about drummer worldwide, and my honor to have him as a guest in Teheran. Originally Jost wanted to travel with the whole family to Iran, visiting Isfahan after a week in Tehran, but unfortunately we had to change this plan in the last minute and he traveled all alone.

After a press conference with some Iranian news agencies, Jost’s Workshop began with breathtaking performance along one of the songs of his Band called "Jan Delay and the Disco No.1”. Over 50 participants from all over Iran came to attend this Workshop and learn from him.
During this two days/12 hour Workshop, Jost showed to students the secrets of grooves by showcasing ideas from his latest book and gave them some ideas about independence and time-feeling and how to make this wonderful instrument sound like pros.
The third day began with a recording session in Sorna Studios. Jost played a "Drum only Performance” for a short film of his visit in Tehran produced by me. You can see this video and an exclusive interview with Iranian Drummer on Youtube checking the links below:

A photo shooting session was planned in Atelier following by an exclusive interview and sound check for his performance in Sorna hall.
This workshop ends up as usual with a solo performance of the invited artist, visited by lots of Iranian drummers and other top musicians from Tehran.
This event was also filmed by ZDF, the second German Television Channel for a report about me, the "Arian Drum School” and "Iranian Drummer”. I’ll keep my site updated as soon as this report is ready to broadcast.
Unlike other guest lecturers invited by me to come to Tehran to make a Workshop, Jost stays one more day to get know more from city and people. So we made together a tour in ancient Bazar of Tehran visiting some Mosques in the city center and a shopping center in upper Tehran.
Getting known the delicious Iranian cuisine and the welcoming people in Iran were some secondary matters that Jost has experienced in his journey to Teheran.
We both are sure that there will be a second visit in the future, hopefully with the lovely family……and maybe a second DRUM WORKSHOP?!!!
